Prix des Nations Unies des Droits de l’Homme 2013

La Diaspora Mauritanienne aux Etats-Unis est très heureuse d’annoncer que Mr. Biram Dah Abeid, Président, de l’Initiative pour la Résurgence du Mouvement Abolitionniste en Mauritanie a été sélectionné pour le Prix des Nations Unies des Droits de l’Homme 2013. Créé par l’Assemblée Générale des Nations Unies en 1966, ce prix est attribué tous les cinq ans à des individus ou organisations qui ont accompli des réalisations exceptionnelles dans le domaine des Droits de l’Homme. La sélection de Mr. Dah a été motivée par son combat courageux contre l’esclavage, la discrimination racial et l’impunité en Mauritanie.

Le Prix hautement convoité et dont la liste des lauréats précédents compte le Rev. Martin Luther King, l’ancien Président Sud-Africain, Nelson Mandela, l’ancien Président Américain Jimmy Carter, Première Dame des Etats-Unis, Eleanor Roosevelt et l’ancien Premier Ministre Pakistanais, Benazir Bhutto parmi tant d’autres personnes de renommée internationale, sera attribué au siège de Nations Unies à New York le 10 Décembre 2013 et coïncidera avec la commémoration de la Journée des Droits de l’Homme.

Le Prix est  une marque de reconnaissance du combat de Biram Dah Abeid pour une Mauritanie juste et égalitaire, et en même temps un avertissement sans équivoque  à tous ceux bafouent ces droits.

2013 UN Human Rights Prize

The US- Mauritanian Diaspora is delighted to announce that Mr. Biram Dah Abeid has been selected to receive the UN Human Rights Prize 2013. Established by the UN General Assembly in 1966, it is awarded every five years to five individuals or organizations who have accomplished “outstanding achievements in the field of human rights.” The selection of Mr. Dah is based on his fearless commitment to combating slavery, racial discrimination and impunity in Mauritania.

 The highly coveted prize whose list of previous recipients includes Rev. Martin Luther King Former President Nelson Mandela, Former President Jimmy Carter, First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt and Former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto among many other internationally renowned people, will be awarded at the UN Headquarters in New York on December 10, 2013 to coincide with the commemoration of the UN Human Rights Day. While the prize is a mark of recognition of the combat by Biram Dah Abeid for justice and equality in Mauritania, it is also a strong warning to those who engage in human rights violations.
